Madrid / Barcelona

Madrid Atocha station

Two separate presentations to 70+ TV and film producers in Madrid and Barcelona (on behalf of FAPAE and Catalan Films) book-ended a trip to Mobile World Congress.

MWC was another display of an industry in growth mode – a truly vast show of enormous stands alongside a myriad of small companies trying to gain some visibility (and differentiation). And yet in some ways the show has become a victim of its own success, with nearly 1800 exhibitors and 70,000 visitors it is very hard to cut through so the technology on show was a series of incremental innovations rather than any step change new launch. The millions of marketing Euros expended on presence by the major brands seemed more about status around the “village green” rather any targeted commercial investment.

One tip – if you ever need to travel between Madrid and Barcelona catch the train: fast, comfortable, cheap, efficient (in fact everything that the London / Bristol train I’m typing this on is not) plus amazing scenery…
