Playable City 2015

A quick update on Playable City, as the programme for 2015 signals the continued expansion of the concept internationally.

The Playable City Award 2015 is now open for application. Creatives from around the world are invited to propose distinctive ideas that put people and play at the heart of the Future City. The Playable City Award will invest £30k in the realisation of an idea which imagines uses of the technologies of the smart city, but in ways that make the city more liveable, hopeful or collaborative.

The deadline for applications is 7th April, full detail here:

Just announced in Japan is the Playable City Tokyo initiative. Using the concept and methodology of the Playable City, Watershed will work with local partners, including the fabulous Rhizomatiks, to deliver a 12 month programme of activities – which will both create new ideas and also interestingly re-purpose existing projects but within an entirely different cultural context.

Previous Playable City award winners maintain attention, with Hello Lamp Post currently installed (in two languages) in Austin TX and Shadowing nominated for the Design Museum’s Designs of the Year 2015 exhibition.

Over the coming months I will continue work with Watershed to define the Playable City concept (and impact) and develop new international opportunities. If you would like to discuss please drop me a line.
